Just a Show Open and Credit Sequence

Background

I am sidekick and producer on a local late-night program called “Just a Show”. In 2009 we went through a major overhaul of the program, adjusting the format and changing studios. Part of this overhaul was a new theme song and production elements including the show open, close/credits, and bump shots.

I took the creative lead on this project. Using GarageBand, I used a combination of loops and original instruments to create a couple of theme song ideas, and we eventually settled on one. With a concept in mind for the show open, we went downtown Minneapolis one night and shot a bunch of footage. I edited this footage to the new theme song to create a new show open. I then provided the voicework for the open, which is customized for each episode to preview the guest and segments. Finally, a clean and consistent closing/credits sequence ends each episode.

Our goal was to create production elements that are professional, energetic, and contemporary — dare we say, on par with something you would see on mainstream late night television.
